I often think about ‘Old and New Dreams’, which was played at a jazz cafe in Fukushima in the late 70s, along with the scenery of the time. I was in high school at the time, and I wonder what kind of future I was imagining while listening to this then. The present may be an accumulation of the past, but it is also a mass of will for the future. I think that ‘Old and New Dreams’ has that kind of meaning, but I could be wrong.
The theme of this year's eight consecutive concerts is ‘Old and New Dreams’. However, this does not mean that the music on this album will be used as material. The 26th, the first day, and the 29th, the last day, are my attempts to open up our current regular activities to the future. On the 27th, as the title suggests, we will perform two sets that are strongly connected to the past and the future, both of which will be performed by a trio that will be meeting for the first time. On the 28th, ‘Distance’ will be a series of four improvised sets with people I have met in recent years, all based on the theme of distance. The set is based on the idea that the past and the future are connected by our approach to distance. Please join us to hear it.
