A rare duo showdown between Roger Turner, a drummer who leads the cutting-edge music scene in the UK, and Masahiko Satoh, a pianist and improviser who represents Japan. Don't miss it!

Masahiko Satoh
Born in Tokyo in 1941. After graduating from Keio University, he studied music composition and arrangement at the Berklee College of Music in the United States. After returning to Japan, he won the Swing Journal's “Japan Jazz Award” for his first leader album, “Palladium”. Since then, he has produced numerous albums and gained high praise internationally. In 1997, he established his own production label, BAJ Records. He released the “Gigaku” series, which uses motifs from Bach, rakugo (traditional Japanese comic storytelling), children's songs, and jazz standards, which was well received. Recently, he has been involved in a variety of projects, including acting as music director for a collaboration with the virtual singer Hatsune Miku. From 1981 to 2020, he was the main lecturer in music theory, composition and arrangement, and piano at the Music College Maserhaus. In 1993, he started the workshop “Randooga”, which aims to provide “improvisation that anyone can participate in regardless of genre or skill”, and has proposed a concise approach to free improvisation.
