Tour to commemorate the release of the long-awaited fourth album, “ROMBO”

Invited by Tomohiro Yahiro, they have been touring Japan every year. They have released three albums: “DOS ORIENTALE” in 2008, “Orienta” in 2011, and “Tercer Viaje” in 2016. All three have won the Graffiti Award for Best Jazz Album. Since 2012, the group has expanded its activities to the world stage, and has been invited to perform in seven countries, including the Japan Foundation-sponsored tour of South America, the Jarasum International Jazz Festival in South Korea, the Japan Cultural Center in Budapest, the Japan Cultural Institute in Cologne, the Canary Islands, and the Penang International Jazz Festival. In Japan, they performed at the Saito Kinen Festival Matsumoto, directed by Seiji Ozawa, and Lisa Ono & Dos Orientales performed at the Noh Theater in Peace City Park in Oita, Japan. During a tour of Uruguay in 2018, they were invited to a ceremony hosted by the Japanese Embassy in Uruguay to commemorate the 110th anniversary of Japanese immigration to Uruguay and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Toyota Uruguay. In recognition of their many years of contribution to the musical cultures of both countries, Dos Orientales received the 2016 Award for Excellence from the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the 2022 Award from the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

In June 2023, a two-day concert celebrating the 80th anniversary of Hugo's birth at Uruguay's most prominent Teatro Solis (1500 seats) was sold out on both days, proving that they are a national star of Uruguay in both name and reality.

The group has developed a unique musical world, drawing on elements of all kinds of music from candombe, the soul music of Montevideo's African inhabitants, to Latin music and jazz, and has received worldwide acclaim for its tension-filled performances despite its minimal composition.

The long-awaited fourth album was released in 2024. The title, “ROMBO,” is based on the image of a diamond shape.
