The shape of the cactus is both strange and lovely, it stores water in the desolate desert, it walks, it is aerial, and it even seems to have feelings. This quartet is an attempt to make music in a manner similar to that of the cactus. The trio of Satoko Fujii on piano, Natsuki Tamura on trumpet, and Ikue Mori on electronics made an album that communicates telepathically amid the dominance of COVID-19. The album title is 'Prickly Pear Cactus'. It is about the Uchiwa cactus. Burbank, an American plant breeder, had made its sharp spines edible through breeding, as described in “Cactus Fantasy" by the writer, Yu Ryutanji. What a surprise, this music can be eaten! The addition of Koichi Makigami's voice here is expected to result in an out-of-this-world cactus called 'Tree Tumbo' (scientific name: Welwitschia mirabilis).
