Sadao Watanabe: Born in Utsunomiya in 1933. After graduating from high school, he moved to Tokyo and joined many bands including Toshiko Akiyoshi's Cozy Quartet. After studying at Berklee College of Music, he became one of Japan's top musicians, active on the world stage with his unique style that goes beyond the boundaries of jazz. In 2005, he realized his longtime dream of performing songs and rhythms together with 400 children from all over the world at the Aichi Expo, transcending national borders and cultures, and his activities have expanded overseas.

In December 2019, he released the live disc 'SADAO 2019 Live at Blue Note Tokyo' featuring Steve Gadd (ds), John Patitucci (b), and Russell Ferrante (p), which won the CD Shop Grand Prize 2020 Jazz Award.

In December 2020, he released 'Look for the Light’, a double-disc 70th-anniversary compilation album of his own selections.

He released an album 'Jazz & Bossa - Live at Suntory Hall' in 2021, featuring a performance of the 70th-anniversary concert 'JAZZ & BOSSA with STRINGS' at Suntory Hall.

As a lifelong active musician who performs energetically not only in Japan but also abroad, he has given courage and inspiration to men and women of all ages all over the world.
