Three Nights Dedicated to the Greatest Japanese Jazzmen

"You can't catch up with Max Roach by following Max Roach. So, I'm taking a different path than he is." Masahiko Togashi died six days after Max Roach's death.

Toshinori Kondo, who traveled to unexplored areas of the world and continued to send out his spiritual world through his trumpet with a mixture of roar and love, was a person who spoke out against the world until the end.

Takehiro Honda, who wrote in his elementary school calligraphy, "To the end of my power," continued to play vigorously until the day before he died.

This year's Tamaya 3-DAYS event will be a solemn and lively memorial to these three people, with me as the sender. I don't need to say much about these three greats, but anyway, I'm looking forward to playing in thee three days.

The first day will be dedicated to Toshinori Kondo, who passed away suddenly last year. With Taizo Sakai, Haruo Togashi, and Akira Sakata, the main members of the IMA band, and Akira Sakata, who had a close relationship with late Kondo, we will portray Kondo's magnificent sound universe with ‘Kusottare-busi'.

The second day will be dedicated to Shinji Hashimoto, who unfortunately passed away last year. August 21st is also my father's birthday. We will mourn Shinji Hashimoto, who also played funky guitar in the Takehiro Honda Tribute Band, and will play his tunes with the tribute band members.

The third day will be a memorial for Masahiko Togashi, the drummer/percussionist I respect most in the world. Pianist Masahiko Satoh, who knew Mr. Togashi best, and bassist Takashi Sugawa, who is playing with Mr. Sato for the first time, will join me to remember him in my special way.

All three of them are spirited musicians who have pursued their own unique music, and they are important people who continue to give me the courage to live and a sincere attitude toward music.

I myself want to refresh my mind and express myself to the fullest in these three days, so please come to join us.
