Known in recent years as a hip-hop producer, Aaron Choulai is also an acclaimed jazz pianist with a unique approach to improvisation and composition, collaborating with artists such as 5lack, Daichi Yamamoto, Kojoe, and Saboten. The Aaron Choulai Trio was formed in 2013 with Shun Ishiwaka and Hideaki Kanazawa and has been performing a wide range of Choulai's originals, standards, and covers. The ensemble is a project that traces Choulai's roots as a jazz pianist, influenced by the trio of Paul Bley, Keith Jarrett, and Bill Evans. This time, he will be joined by the talented alto saxophonist Akiha Nakashima. Having played with the trio on several occasions, Nakashima's style and sound is a perfect fit for the unit, with great contrast to the laid-back, free dynamics of the rhythm section.
